BARDWELL, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky teacher is facing charges after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.
News outlets report that state police say 29-year-old Zachary J. Sims of Hickory was arrested Tuesday on charges of unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual activity, tampering with physical evidence, and official misconduct.
Police say they received a tip last month that Sims, who was a teacher at Carlisle County middle and high schools, was involved in a relationship with a student.
An investigation began and Sims resigned from his teacher’s position shortly thereafter.
Police say they uncovered evidence that Sims and the student had exchanged sexually explicit messages over the course of several months.
It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
