LOS ANGELES (AP) - Wildlife officials have found a new mountain lion kitten in the Santa Monica Mountains near Los Angeles.
Researchers with the National Park Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said Tuesday that the female kitten, dubbed P-54, was born sometime in January. The Los Angeles Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2nXkx9Y ) the kitten’s mother is a GPS-tagged mountain lion called P-23.
Researchers and a veterinarian went to the mountains in February and located P-54 while the mother was away from the den. The kitten was sedated, fitted with an ear tag and outfitted with a tracking device.
