PHOENIX (AP) - Strong winds in metro Phoenix Monday night were blamed for scattered damage at sites that included the Glendale venue hosting the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and a high school in another suburb.

The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of 43 mph in the Glendale airport, 51 mph at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix and 46 mph at Mesa Gateway Airport.

A large metal entrance decoration was blown over outside University of Phoenix Stadium during the NCAA championship game. Glendale police had no report of injury.

Tempe Union High School District said classes were canceled Tuesday at Tempe High School due to a power outage caused by wind damage, but Arizona Public Service Co. spokeswoman Anna Haberlein Stewart said the cause of a transformer failure remained under investigation.
