POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) - Cat owners in Pocatello will need to license their pets by June.

City officials tell the Idaho State Journal (https://bit.ly/2nTqB3a) that the cat licensing requirement approved by the city council last fall requires cats three months or older to have a license.

Licenses cost $5 per cat and are good from June 1 to May 31.

Cat owners must also provide their name, current address, phone number and proof that their cat has a microchip.

City officials say cats are the animals most often brought into the city’s shelter and microchips will help locate owners.

The city can put in a microchip for $15.
