WOMAN CHARGED IN SANDY HOOK PARENT THREAT ARRESTED AFTER MISSING COURT APPEARANCE
Jail records show 57-year-old Lucy Richards was arrested on Saturday in Hillsborough County in the Tampa Bay area. A judge issued an arrest warrant March 29 after Richards failed to show up in federal court in Fort Lauderdale for a change-of-plea hearing and sentencing. She was set to plead guilty to a charge of interstate transmission of a threat to injure.
AMERICAN CROCODILE RUN OVER, KILLED IN THE FLORIDA KEYS
The female croc was run over by a tractor-trailer last week. The driver told the Florida Highway Patrol that he couldn’t avoid the 8-foot-long reptile when it walked into the path of the truck. American crocodiles nearly became extinct by the mid-1970s when only a handful of breeding females - all in the Keys - were known to exist.
DEPUTIES: MAN STABBED EX-GIRLFRIEND WITH SWORD; RAN HER OVER
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies found 42-year Brandi Blevins dead in the front yard of a home Sunday night. Detectives said 41-year-old Eric Huffman had stabbed Blevins with a large sword. The sheriff’s office said a witness told them that after Huffman stabbed Blevins, he jumped into his truck and drove over the victim before crashing into a tree. He ran, but was later captured.
FLORIDA COULD ERASE PART OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TESTING LAW
State senators crafted the proposal together amid arguments over how much testing should be allowed in the state’s public schools. The Senate Education Committee voted for the bill on Monday. The measure would eliminate four end-of-year exams that are now required in civics, United States history, geometry and Algebra II.
INVESTIGATOR: 2 PLANES FLEW IN FORMATION BEFORE MIDAIR CRASH
Todd Gunther of the National Transportation Safety Board says the collision between the Cessna 170 and the Grumman Tiger left a quarter-mile-long line of debris before hitting the ground in a wooded field in Edgewater. The crash Saturday morning killed the two pilots. A preliminary inspection at the crash site didn’t show any structural or electrical failure in either aircraft.
