ELKO, Nev. (AP) - The president of a community college in Minnesota has been approved by the Nevada Board of Regents to serve as the next president of Great Basin College in Elko.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (https://tinyurl.com/kg8fcss) Joyce Helens will assume her new position Aug. 1.
Helens was among three finalists to replace outgoing President Mark Curtis, who is retiring in June.
She has been president since 2006 of Minnesota’s St. Cloud Technical and Community College. She also has served in senior and executive community college leadership positions in Oregon, Texas and Washington.
Curtis says the regents’ choice will leave the northeast Nevada college in good hands.
The other finalists were Barbara Buchanan, vice president at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, and George McNulty, vice president at Colby Community College in Kansas.
