Republican House candidate Karen Handel said her job isn’t to be “an extension of the White House,” despite President Trump’s expected visit to her district in Georgia on Friday.
“My job isn’t to be an extension of the White House, my job is to be the best advocate I can be for the people of the 6th,” Ms. Handel said on Fox News.
Ms. Handel is competing against Democrat Jon Ossoff for former House Rep. Tom Price’s seat in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District. Mr. Price now serves as Health and Human Services secretary.
She did say, however, that she is just as supportive of the president as she was when he was elected, and expects to agree with him on many issues.
“Nothing has changed,” Ms. Handel said. “President Trump is our president, and I support him 100 percent.”
Since neither Ms. Handel nor Mr. Ossoff captured 50 percent of the vote in the April election, the race is going to a runoff scheduled for June 20.
