CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) - The opening of a Hindu temple outside Baltimore is expected to draw an estimated 2,000 people from around the world.
The Baltimore Sun reports (https://bsun.md/2qeWuUZ ) the three-story, 12,000-square-foot temple will hold opening celebrations Friday through Sunday. It is the only of its kind the International Society of Krishna Consciousness plans to open in the U.S in 2017.
ISKCON of Baltimore a.k.a New Kulina Bram Dam is a congregation of about 500 who funded the $3.6 million needed for their temple’s construction that took 30 months to finish.
The temple will accommodate a thousand people and includes a worship hall and meditation center. The temple’s kitchen is capable of serving as many as 700 vegetarian meals per hour which allows for expansion of its mission to feed homeless shelters nearby.
