CHICAGO (AP) - Theaters in and around Chicago will dim their marquee lights and observe a moment of silence in honor of former Steppenwolf Theatre artistic director Martha Lavey. Lavey died this week.
In a news release, the Steppenwolf Theater says the tributes will take place at the Steppenwolf, Goodman Theatre, Victory Gardens Theatre and others a half hour before the start times of their evening productions on Friday night.
Lavey was one of the most influential figures in the Chicago theater scene. She appeared in more than 30 productions herself at the Steppenwolf and was the artistic director there for two decades.
Lavey died at the age of 60 on Tuesday, several days after suffering a stroke.
