EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (AP) - Investigators say an 86-year-old Massachusetts man was killed when a riding lawn mower burst into flames, setting his clothes on fire.

East Bridgewater Fire Chief Timothy Harhen said the fire started Monday under a deck at the East Bridgewater home.

The homeowner, Bernadino Pellgrino, was found dead beside the home. His wife escaped unhurt.

Harhen said the fire spread through the house quickly and firefighters were forced to retreat when the roof appeared ready to collapse.
