SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say one person is dead and another is hospitalized after a fire broke out in a residential building in an upstate New York city’s historic district.
Fire officials in Schenectady (skeh-NEHK’-ta-dee) say the blaze was reported around 1:30 a.m. Monday in a building in the city’s Stockade Historic District. The flames spread to two neighboring structures but have since been extinguished.
Officials say one person has died. Another has been taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Several other people made it out of the buildings unharmed.
The cause of the fire is investigation.
The Stockade district, located along the Mohawk River, dates back to Colonial times and features more than 40 homes over 200 years old.
