AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Military children used to moving in and out of different schools are getting special recognition from the state.

The Maine Department of Education is encouraging school districts to pick a day and wear purple the last week in April.

The monthlong celebration highlights military children and the daily sacrifices they and their families make.



Maine Department of Education Commissioner Robert Hasson says that the state and local school officials work with the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission to make sure military kids receive comprehensive schooling no matter where they live.

The state on Thursday held a celebration honoring military children and their families at the Maine State Library.
