WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - The Better Business Bureau of Northwest North Carolina is warning job seekers of an apparent work-from-home employment scam from a source claiming to be a company which is no longer in business.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2ouwGTp) several potential victims contacted the BBB about the offer from “Carpenter and Company” in Winston-Salem. While there was once a company with that name in Clemmons, the BBB says it’s no longer in business.
Over the past month, the BBB website has received more than 140 inquiries on Carpenter and Company. Callers said they received emails which included links to forms seeking personal information, copies of identification and authorization to perform a background check.
BBB says anyone receiving a job offer shouldn’t complete or forward the forms and stop talking to the source.
