RENO, Nev. (AP) - Fire officials say they’ve rescued two men who lost control of their kayaks on the Truckee River.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (https://on.rgj.com/2pjYYEn ) the Reno Fire Department had a report of two abandoned kayaks spotted on the river Wednesday. Reno Fire Battalion Chief Mark Winkelman says one of the men’s kayaks flipped over in the water. The man swam to the edge of the river after he began floating toward a restricted area.

The water pushed the other kayaker into a low head dam.

Not wanting to get stuck, the other man jumped out of his kayak.

Winkelman says people who do not have much kayaking experience should stay away from the river, which currently has unprecedented water levels.
