DETROIT (AP) - The leader of the Roman Catholic church in southeastern Michigan will give a formal blessing to expansion of the Sacred Heart Major Seminary campus.
Archbishop Allen Vigneron will be joined Thursday by government and church leaders in Detroit. The seminary is adding 2 ½ acres by turning a vacant apartment building and vacant lots into a parking area and green space.
The seminary’s main entrance will be moved to Chicago Boulevard.
The seminary is nearly a century old and currently has 107 men preparing to become priests. Another 380 people are studying theology and parish-based ministry.
