BELDEN, Miss. (AP) - Old Natchez Trace Lake in northeastern Mississippi is being drained so a dam can be repaired.
The lake is inside Trace State Park near Belden.
Workers from the state Department of Environmental Quality inspected the dam in early April and found that it was damaged to the point that the core of the dam could be affected.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks says in a news release Wednesday that its workers were told to start draining the lake to get ready for dam repairs this summer.
Fishing will still be allowed while the lake level is falling.
The estimated cost of the repair was not immediately available.
