Eastern Iowa teacher charged with failure to report abuse

MARION, Iowa (AP) - The teacher of an eastern Iowa classroom where a 15-year-old volunteer sexually abused kindergartners now faces charges.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports (https://bit.ly/2pjaAGW ) that Diane Graham has been charged with failure to report child abuse. Her initial court appearance has been set for April 24.

Court records say Graham was a teacher at a Marion elementary school when two students told her in August that they were being abused by a student volunteer in her classroom. Prosecutors say Graham did not report the abuse, allowing it to continue for two more months. A phone number for Graham could not be found Saturday.

The student volunteer was convicted as a juvenile last month of fondling three kindergarteners. His fate will be decided at an April 28 disposition hearing.
