SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Construction has begun at the site of two future hotels at The Outlets mall near the Sparks Marina along U.S. Interstate 80.
The project includes a 102-room Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton and a 104-room Residence Inn by Marriott.
Both properties owned by Olympia Companies and Tharaldson Hospitality Management are expected to open next spring.
DeCoucy Graham, chief marketing and development officer for Olympia, says the company started working on the project in 2007 but put it on hold due to a downturn in the economy.
Since then, Graham said the arrival of new companies like Tesla, Apple and Switch have been driving the diversification of the local economy with tens of thousands of new jobs. He says the hotel projects are another sign of the prosperous times ahead for the Reno-Sparks area.
