EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - Eau Claire police say a 20-year veteran of the department has been placed on desk duties while officials investigate the fatal shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Police say Officer Jim Konkel shot 25-year-old Gregory Kever, of Eau Claire, after Kever charged at an officer while he was carrying a large knife. Efforts by officers to revive Kever were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say police attempted to stop Kever by firing bean bag rounds and using a stun gun, but those methods were not successful.
Eau Claire Police Chief Jerry Staniszewski says the results of the probe will include a full disclosure of events and a citizen review.
