MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - A former high school teacher who traded sexually explicit texts with a male student is now headed to prison.
Jenna Leahey received a five-year sentence Monday. She had pleaded guilty to a child endangerment charge in January, as jury selection was about to begin in her trial.
The 35-year-old Flanders resident must also register as a sex offender and has surrendered her teaching certificate. She had been an English teacher at Parsippany Hills High School.
Authorities say Leahey had a relationship with a 16-year-old boy in 2013. The teen was not a student of Leahey’s at the time, but had been in the previous school year.
Leahey admitted sharing the texts with the teen but didn’t admit to any physical contact with him.
