SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An opponent of a plan to change the Rebel nickname of a Vermont high school is facing charges he threatened a student over the student’s position about the school district’s decision to change the name.

South Burlington police said Friday 43-year-old Dan Emmons was charged with stalking and disturbing the peace by use of electronic communication.

Emmons had been a member of a group opposed to the decision by the South Burlington school board to change the school’s Rebel nickname because it was felt to be divisive.

The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/2nqndLG ) reports that Emmons removed himself from the group Rebel Alliance until the complaint has been resolved.

Emmons at first declined comment, but then said “there isn’t much of a story” and things aren’t always what they seem.
