NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting in the city Friday afternoon that left one teen dead and another wounded.

The shooting occurred on Hawthorne Avenue in the city’s south ward. Police responding to a call at about 3 p.m. found the two victims.

The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old was taken to a hospital in stable condition suffering from a gunshot wound.



Authorities didn’t say what led to the shooting.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
