STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi State University senior will receive the Barry Goldwater Scholarship.
A press release from the university says engineering major Jackson Coole will receive the award. The Picayune native is the third Mississippi State student in the past six years to get the scholarship.
Coole plans to get a doctorate and then teach in academia.
Senior Sabrina Moore, who is double majoring in chemistry and microbiology, got honorable mention. She is the school’s eighth student in the past six years to get that recognition.
The Goldwater Foundation is a based in Virginia and runs a national scholarship. It is named after the former Republican senator from Arizona, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for president in 1984.
