BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after police found skeletal remains inside an abandoned Birmingham house.

Al.com reports the remains were found shortly before 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards said detectives were investigating a tip about a recent homicide at the house. He said they found nothing having to do with a recent homicide, but a search and recovery dog helped find the skeletal remains.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Johnny Long said police are suspicious given the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the remains. Neither police nor the coroner’s office are releasing many details.

Long says the remains are believed to have belonged to a white male. The cause of death was not immediately determined.
