OPINION:
After reading another fascinating article by Wesley Pruden regarding the media’s obsessive desire to vanquish Donald Trump by whatever means necessary, I was reminded of one Col. Jacobo Arbenz Guzman, erstwhile president of Guatemala, who became a forlorn victim of the media (“When a presidential race rages out of control,” Web, Aug. 11).
Convinced that then President Arbenz was an extreme leftist, in 1954 the U.S. government and the CIA cranked up a pirate radio station — and for one week that June broadcast that the national military was going to overthrow Arbenz. They also broadcast that the president’s his loyal forces had surrendered their weapons, U.S. forces were on their way, and that the people’s support had vanished. The result: Arbenz resigned and fled Guatemala within seven days, having no idea that none of those statements had been true.
The old American media is trying to ’Arbenz’ The Donald. It is throwing the veritable sink his way, prevarications, exaggerations and more. The Donald is most assuredly not a coward, and neither he nor his supporters will cede to the hyperbolic media’s machinations or dreams of his most assured defeat. The Donald is not poor Jacobo Arbenz.
