OZARK, Ala. (AP) - A grand jury will decide whether to indict an Alabama man arrested in the death of his wife 26 years ago.
The Dothan Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/2dFCTY0 ) a Dale County judge ruled there is sufficient evidence to forward the case against 51-year-old Carl E. Harris Jr. to a grand jury. Harris was jailed on a $75,000 bond.
Ozark police Lt. Jimmy Culbreath testified Thursday that Tracy Harris, whose body was found in the Choctawhatchee River in March 1990, died from drowning. But an autopsy also found bruising on her neck consistent with strangulation.
Culbreath said he learned Harris once asked for help getting rid of somebody two weeks before his wife went missing.
But the detective also said police have no eyewitnesses or physical evidence linking Harris to his wife’s death.
