LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles County couple has been convicted in the child-abuse in the death of their 4-month-old baby.
The district attorney’s office says a judge on Thursday found Ashley Debra Jones guilty of second-degree murder and child abuse. She faces 15 years to life in prison.
Co-defendant Johnathan Lucero was found guilty of felony child abuse and faces 10 years in prison.
Jones, Lucero and the baby girl were living in a Downey apartment with Lucero’s family.
The infant was found unresponsive on Dec. 31, 2015, and a family member called 911. The baby was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
According to court testimony, the malnourished baby had been beaten, suffering skull fractures, cerebral contusions, multiple rib fractures, a lacerated liver, bruised lungs and contusions to her diaphragm.
