WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man is facing charges in connection with a fiery crash on Interstate 95 that left the driver of a tractor-trailer dead.

State police say the crash happened at about 7 p.m. Wednesday on I-95 southbound near the Saugatuck River Bridge in Westport.

Police say a car being driven by 35-year-old Ramses Rival, of Stamford, struck the tractor-trailer, causing it to veer to the right, strike a metal beam guardrail and then flip over. The tractor-trailer then hit a light pole and a tree before catching on fire.

The tractor-trailer’s operator, 64-year-old Thomas Reynolds, of Woodbury, was pronounced dead at the scene. Rival was uninjured.

Rival was arrested for driving under the influence and released on a $10,000 bond.

Online public records didn’t list a phone number for Rival.
