Police: Boy, 5, dies after being run over by father

DETROIT (AP) - Police say a 5-year-old boy has died after he was run over by his father in an apparent accident in southwest Detroit.

Officer Shanelle Williams, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department, tells The Detroit News that the 27-year-old father backed over his child Tuesday.

WXYZ-TV reports the father thought the child was in the backseat of the vehicle. Williams says the child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The father was questioned by police. The death is under investigation.
