LEXINGTON, Tenn. (AP) - A West Tennessee high school teacher has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated statutory rape.
The Jackson Sun (https://bit.ly/2dphvK7) reports Adam Yates appeared in Henderson County General Sessions Court on Tuesday for arraignment. The 34-year-old is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old Lexington High School student.
According to the school’s website, Yates teaches in the special education department and is also listed as a football/baseball coach. The newspaper reports Yates has been suspended without pay from his teaching and coaching positions.
His attorney, Daniel Taylor, says he is gathering information about the case.
Yates’ next court appearance was set for Oct. 19.
