SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Dozens of people are calling for leniency in the case of a Utah teenager who has been criminally charged after being shot by police.
KUTV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2ddpabB ) that protesters gathered at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office Monday calling for compassion toward Abdullahi “Abdi” Mohamed, who is charged with robbery and drug offenses stemming from a fight he was in while being shot.
Mohamed was shot by police on Feb. 27 during a fight with another man near a homeless shelter. In August, the District Attorney’s Office ruled the shooting justified and in September a citizen review board deemed the shooting “not within” the police department’s policy.
District Attorney Sim Gill says the aggravated robbery charge stems from a separate event than the officer-involved shooting.
