LAS VEGAS (AP) - A man who was shot by Las Vegas police in 2012 will receive a $400,000 settlement from the police department.

KLAS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2cAkLkX ) that Las Vegas Metropolitan Police’s Fiscal Affairs Committee on Monday approved the settlement for Lawrence Gordon, who was shot in November 2012 during a domestic dispute.

Then-Sheriff Doug Gillespie refused to fire Officer Jacquar Roston over the incident, prompting the retirement of then-Assistant Sheriff Ted Moody, who disagreed with Gillespie’s decision.

Roston shot Gordon after Gordon reached for a hat with a reflective sticker on it. The officer mistook the hat for a firearm.
