RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A Duke University mathematician is telling how math can help recover art at risk of being lost to the ages.
Ingrid Daubechies (Doh-bee-SHEE’) speaks Tuesday afternoon at North Carolina State University about how mathematical algorithms help art historians and conservators with detective work like reassembling shattered frescos. Her presentation will focus on the mathematical elements that make the tools possible.
Her talk is part of a lecture series designed to show students from middle school to professors the beauty and applicability of mathematics.
The talk is timed to coincide with the opening of a related exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
