GILFORD, N.H. (AP) - The New Hampshire Marine Patrol says divers surveying part of the state’s largest lake have found a potentially hazardous rock about 8 feet below the surface.

The Laconia Citizen (https://bit.ly/2cI9lKq ) reports the survey of the shallow channel between Eagle and Governors Island near Gilford on Lake Winnipesaukee was performed to identify possible hazards that low-water levels may create for the M/S Mount Washington tourist boat.

Capt. Jim Morash told the Marine Patrol a rock was found below the surface within the navigable channel for the boat.

Officials say the depth of the rock doesn’t pose a problem for traditional recreational boats operating on the lake. They say a black-topped buoy will remain until water levels return to seasonal levels or after the final cruise of the year next month.
