PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh-area man has been jailed on charges he hid a stolen, loaded gun in some bushes near an elementary school after a traffic accident.

Twenty-year-old Lamont Marquel Benton faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 6 on charges including receiving stolen property, illegally possessing a firearm and possessing a firearm on school property.

Pittsburgh police charged the Mount Oliver man on Sunday after he was involved in the two-vehicle crash near Concord Elementary School.

Police say Benton can’t own guns because of his criminal record. They found the weapon after a witness told investigators they saw Benton put something in the bushes.

Police say Benton hid the gun inside a purse and still had some seeds from the bushes on his pant legs when he was arrested.

Online court records don’t list a defense attorney.
