BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Bridgeport man currently serving an 80-year prison sentence in the slaying of a woman and the wounding of his girlfriend and her daughter a decade ago has been granted a new trial.
The Connecticut Post reports (https://bit.ly/2cZWlQh ) the state Appellate Court ruled on Monday that the jury that convicted Durante Best should have been instructed to consider that his actions were self-defense.
Police say Best in May 2006 shot Rogerlina Jones; his girlfriend, Erica Anderson; and her daughter Octavia in the chest following an argument with Anderson at their home. Jones later died.
A 12-person jury in 2007 found Best guilty of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and a weapons charge.
