COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A central Colorado water district has announced it has completely switched from contaminated well water to cleaner water pumped in from the Pueblo Reservoir.
The Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2cAjVQn ) Security Water and Sanitation Districts’ general manager, Roy Heald, said Tuesday contaminated water is no longer expected to reach homes in Security.
Security, Widefield and Fountain had relied heavily on the Widefield aquifer earlier this year to meet demand.
The three cities were forced to find other water sources in May, when the Environmental Protection Agency imposed stricter guidelines for perfluorinated compounds and the aquifer was deemed contaminated.
Fountain went the entire summer without using the aquifer, while Widefield is expected to switch completely to an alternative water source in October.
An investigation into how the Widefield aquifer got contaminated is ongoing.
