NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are probing the death of a two-month-old child in New Jersey’s largest city.

Essex County prosecutors say the child was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived at the Chadwick Avenue home in Newark late Monday night. The infant was pronounced dead a short time later.

Authorities say it’s not yet known what caused the child’s death. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

Authorities have not disclosed any details about the child, including its name or gender. They also declined comment on the ongoing investigation.
