ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - York County deputies say that six children have been removed from a home near Rock Hill that was filthy, had no running water and little food.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports (https://bit.ly/2d6UCHT) the children, ages 8 months to 8 years, were taken into protective custody on Sunday.

Deputies went to the home after receiving an anonymous tip to check on the children.

A sheriff’s report said the children had head lice and the home smelled of garbage, urine and feces, according to a sheriff’s report. It also said the children who were old enough to go to school had not been enrolled.

The report said the mother of the children was taken into custody but was not immediately charged.
