NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Virginia police have charged a man with stealing a car, abducting a woman and intentionally crashing into a police vehicle in Wyth.

Police say 40-year-old Roy Crutchfield has been arrested and charged with abduction, attempted murder, hit-and-run offenses and other charges.

Police say at about 8:30 a.m. Crutchfield was driving a stolen Honda Odyssey and ran off the road at Route 52 and Rose Hill Road and crashed into a fence. Police say he fled the scene, speeding onto Interstate 81 where he intentionally crashed into a Newport News Sheriff’s Office car with two deputies inside.

Police say Crutchfield was apprehended at a “park and ride” nearby, and that an investigation determined that he’d abducted his passenger on Sunday night.
