Pulaski police set up ‘safe room’

PULASKI, Wis. (AP) - A police department in northeastern Wisconsin has set up a “safe room” at its station with external, around-the-clock access.

Pulaski Police Chief Mark Hendzel says the room with its heavy steel door and internal locks could be a lifesaving place, depending on the situation. Hendzel tells WLUK-TV (https://bit.ly/2d3NU5t ) it could be used by domestic violence or sexual assault victims and possibly those subjected to road rage.

The exterior door is clearly marked “safe room” and has a blue light above the door. Inside is an emergency button to call for help. Police officers will be able to access the room from the station.

Hendzel says the room hasn’t been used yet.
