GRAFTON, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a 5-year-old boy was hit by a car and killed near his Grafton home.

Worcester (WOOS’-ter) District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. says the boy was hit Sunday afternoon in what he says appears to be a tragic accident.

Neither the boy nor the driver has been publicly identified.

Town and state police detectives are investigating the death.

The Telegram & Gazette reports Grafton Public Schools Superintendent James Cummings says the boy had been a kindergartner at one of the district’s elementary schools.

Cummings says teachers will meet with grief counselors at that school and another where the boy’s older siblings attend classes.
