NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A senior airman stationed at Langley Air Force Base has been accused of growing marijuana from his Newport News apartment and selling it.

Citing court documents, news outlets report 25-year-old John Alan Deming was recently in a Portsmouth hospital and asked someone to go by his apartment and get some clothing. Police say that person noticed suspicious items and alerted authorities.

During a Sept. 9 search, Newport News police officers say they confiscated 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana, 1 gram of cocaine, 12 firearms and two cellphones from Deming’s apartment.

Deming is a member of the 497th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, which reviews data from unmanned drones in war zones.

He faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
