Does anyone else find it interesting that President Obama had to reach all the way back 150 years to slavery to find a time in which African-Americans were in a worse situation than they are now, after eight years of his administration (“Obama mocks Trump: Even 8-year-olds know slavery was bad for black people,” Web, Sept. 23)?

What about during the Civil Rights movement, the 1950s, World War II, or the early-20th century? I grew up in the 1960s and feel strongly that the black community then was much stronger and experienced far less violence than it does now.

I guess the president was right: African-Americans have never been worse off than they are now unless you go all the way back to slavery. I find that a sad commentary on Mr. Obama’s legacy.
