AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Two South Texas counties have been declared state disaster areas following late-summer heavy rain and flooding.
Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday announced the disaster declarations for Atascosa (a-tuhs-KOH’-suh) and Wilson counties. The time frame involves severe weather and flash flooding the weekend of Aug. 20-21.
Some people living in the Floresville area reported getting up to 9 inches of rain.
The state disaster designation helps clear the way for government assistance.
