PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a man in northeast Philadelphia and then fled the scene, abandoning the car nearby.

Officials said the 51-year-old pedestrian was crossing the street in the Rhawnhurst neighborhood shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by the northbound car.

Police said he was taken to Aria Health’s Torresdale hospital with severe head and chest trauma and pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday. His name wasn’t immediately released.



Police said the driver fled the scene and abandoned the car about two blocks away, fleeing on foot.
