NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (AP) - A former California State University, Northridge, student has been taken into custody after authorities say he showed up at the campus and began threatening people with a sledgehammer.

CSUN police spokeswoman Christina Villalobos said Saturday 29-year-old Jesse John Moya has been charged with felony vandalism in connection with the scare on campus Friday afternoon.

Villalobos says students began calling 911 shortly after 3 p.m. to report being chased by a man carrying a sledgehammer. No students were harmed but the man did attack a statue of the college’s mascot.

Moya is being held on $50,000 bail at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.

Messages left at phone listings for Moya and his relatives Saturday were not immediately returned.
