MORAINE, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio sheriff’s deputy is being recognized for pulling a man from a burning truck after a crash.

Jody Green has been named the Butler County deputy of the year. He and several other co-workers were honored at the sheriff’s office last month with an awards ceremony.

The school resource officer was on his way to Montgomery County in June to pick up a prisoner when he saw a tractor-trailer swerve, causing a crash involving two cars and a pole.

Green says the truck came to a stop and then caught fire. He ran to the truck and with the help of bystanders dragged him away from the blaze.

The 17-year veteran and school resource officer says he was in the right place at the right time.
