SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) - A mother and son charged in the 2008 murder of her husband have been ordered to stand trial in western Pennsylvania.
The (Somerset) Daily American (https://bit.ly/2cLzyoU ) reports that 62-year-old Jeanette Battle of Reading and 38-year-old Samuel McFarland Jr. of Somerset waived their rights to preliminary hearings Friday.
They are charged in Somerset County in the death of 55-year-old Thomas Conrad, whose body was found last summer when authorities said McFarland led investigators to an area near an abandoned strip mine south of Garrett.
Authorities originally accused McFarland of shooting Conrad, saying he had bragged about killing the victim and burying his body. But prosecutors said McFarland later told investigators that Battle actually killed the victim, and the two then buried the body before Battle set fire to their home.
