BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - Trial resumes Monday for a central Pennsylvania man charged in the stabbing death of his estranged wife a year ago.

Sixty-four-year-old Vladimir Podnebennyy is charged in Centre County with first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime.

Authorities allege that he stabbed 58-year-old Natalya Podnebennaya in her car outside the couple’s College Township residence during am October 2015 domestic dispute.

The Centre Daily Times (https://bit.ly/2diuY6U ) reports that the judge said he would tell jurors that the defendant killed the victim and did so intentionally. Prosecutors said they feared that decision might not survive an appeal.

District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said the defendant killed the victim because she had left him. Defense attorney Karen Muir argued that he shouldn’t be convicted of first-degree murder.
